 Scalextrics Racing
Our slot car racing is very similar to Scalextric. The premise is simple: Drive a miniature racing car around a slotted track, the winner being the first person to cross the chequered line. Sounds too easy? Don't be fooled, Scalextric and slot car racing require judgement of speed and distance - too fast around the track, and your car will come off on the corners - too slow, and your opponent will overtake you! Slot cars are electrically powered model cars guided by a T shaped guide at the front of the car which fits in a slot cut in the track surface and picks up the power. A section of track usually has two such grooves, normally referred to as lanes. An electric motor, in the car, is powered by two pickups that run along the metal strips lining the sides of the groove. The speed of the car is controlled by a hand controller that varies the power.
